Friends for the Sharks
Today we had some guests talk to us at school. The were divers who spoke to us about sharks.
We learned that the fastest shark in the world is the mako shark. The spotty whale shark is the biggest in the world and it is as long as the Muritai Centre. There is a glow in the dark shark that is as small as our hand, it is the smallest in the world.
Why do sharks matter?
Sharks look after fish, they are the caretakers of the ocean. They eat dead fish and help keep sea life in balance.
Only 5 people are killed each year by sharks so there is no need tobe scared of sharks.
Catherine meet a great white shark in South Africa called Rasta, she was huge and very playful. Sharks are very different they have different personalities, Rasta used to put her chin on the boat and sometimes liked a pat on the head. She liked to watch Catherine on her tour boat and was nice and friendly!!!
Great White Sharks live for up to 70years and when they are fully grown weigh up to 2 tonnes. They have bright blue eyes. When they hunt their jaw comes right out of their mouth and this is how you tell they are ready to grab their prey. Sometimes they hurt people because they work out what what by using their mouths...this can lead to a nasty bite.
Fun Fun Friday
This Friday we where learning about the seasons. We read a poem and then drew a diagram to show our learning. Last week we made a collage to show what happens in each season.
